Errico Fresis is Professor at the University of Arts Berlin (musical director of the Voice and Opera Department) recently also Principal Conductor of the Philharmonic Orchestra and of the Opera of Freiburg (Germany) and develops his reputation as one of the most creative and innovative conductors.
Born 1963 in Greece where he studied piano and theory, continuing at the Rubin Academy (Tel Aviv, Israel) with Leon Schidlowsky (analysis, interpretation). Errico Fresis was Musical Director of the Chamber Orchestra at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich, vocal coach at the Vienna Staatsoper and Volksoper, and held the positions of vocal coach at the Opera of Ulm (Germany), Conductor and Head of Music at the Opera of Saarbrücken (Germany) and Artistic and Musical Director of PanArte Ensemble for old and new music. He has assisted Sir Georg Solti and Christoph von Dohnanyi on recordings.
Errico Fresis appeared at the Vienna Konzerthaus with the Klangforum Wien conducting a programme characteristic for his innovative programmes, with compositions of Monteverdi and Nono. Other appearances include the world premiere of Alexiadis’ Viva la Vida at the Alte Oper Frankfurt (a production of the Frankfurt Festival) as well as performances and recordings with the Radio Symphony Orchestra of Athens and the Symphony Orchestra of Thessaloniki (Greece). As Artistic and Musical Director of PanArte ensemble for old and new music he attracted new audiences through innovative multimedia programmes. He was also lecturer at the University (comparative linguistics) and the Academy of Music of Saarbrücken.
Recent engagements include concerts with at the Edinburgh International Festival with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra (Eötvös’ Three Sisters), the Orchestra Filarmonica del Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania, the ensemble recherche at the Hannover Biennale and Hitzacker Festival, Ensemble PanArte at the Saarbrücken Summer Festival, with the Radio Symphony Orchestra of Saarbrücken and the Freiburg Philharmonic , productions of Mozart´s La finta giardiniera at the Opera of Graz (Austria), Donizetti’s L´elisir d´amore at the opera of Bienne (Swiss),The magic flute at the National Opera of Weimar, performances at the Opera of Freiburg of Puccini’s Tosca, Eötvös’ Three Sisters, Verdi’s Trovatore, Strauss’ Fledermaus, Wagner’s Fliegende Holländer, Britten’s Turn of the screw, Verdi’s Rigoletto, Mozart’s Zauberflöte, Tchaikovsky’s Onegin,Bizet’s Carmen, Marschner’s Der Vampyr and Verdi’s Macbeth as well as concerts with the ensemble recherche at Bludenz (Austria) and the State Orchestra of Thessaloniki (Greece). Errico Fresis conducted concerts with the Radio Symphony Orchestra of Saarbrücken, the world premiere of the Opera Voyeur of Jörg Mainka at the State Opera of Stuttgart, the operas Staatstheater of Kagel, Abstrakte Oper of Blacher, Der Diktator of Krenek, La serva padrona of Pergolesi and La finta giardiniera of Mozart with the Soloists and Orchestra of the University of Arts, Berlin as well as concerts with the ensemble recherche and the Neue Vokalsolisten Stuttgart in Rome, the orchestra of the Teatro Massimo Bellini, Catania and the Orchèstre d’Harmonie de Fribourg (CH).
